Ritz cinema, Lincoln - Live M.R.James Ghost stories performed by Robert Lloyd Parry

Award winning actor R M Lloyd Parry (who featured on the cover and in a 8 page feature on M.R.James in the September 2012 issue of Fortean Times magazine) returns to Lincoln (first time at The Ritz Cinema & Theatre) to perform his highly acclaimed one man show 'Oh, Whistle...' (part of his M R James Trilogy.) Here he will regale us with two ghostly tales by the master of the ghost story, M R James.'Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You, My Lad' - a tale of nocturnal horror on the Suffolk coast - is considered by many to be the author's masterpiece. It is beautifully complemented here by ' The Ash Tree,' a story of witchcraft and vengeance down the generations.

Montague Rhodes James (M R James) 1862-1936, was a medieval scholar, the Provost of King's College Cambridge, and the author of some of the best supernatural tales in the English language. He produced roughly one story a year between 1893 & 1930, many of them composed to be read aloud to friends at Christmas.

Victorian/Edwardian dress actively encouraged.

Tickets are £9 each & available from http://ohwhistle-estw.eventbrite.co.uk/

Unfortunately I'll miss the show. I'm on an island in the Pacific Northwest, USA, but I'm intrigued by the Ash Tree, and "story of witchcraft and vengeance down the generation" makes my day. I'm enjoying your posts. Until next time...Keep those fires stoked.

Dear Paul
I saw your pretty face with my followers. Thanks, man. I was hoping to put your cool blue haunted house on my Blood Donors page, but as far as I can tell, it's not an image. Let me know if I'm just lame, or if there's another way, and I'll add it. I like to support my fellow bloggers, even if their blogs are way better than mine! Until next time...Keep those fires stoked.

Hi Paul
I went ahead and created a jpeg, but I couldn't figure out how to create the link within the image, since I couldn't find a url, so I just added your link next to the image on my Blood Donors page.

Hey, Paul - I wonder if you remember The Ghost Of Captain Kidd - glow in the dark ghost pirate action figure from the early 70s. Very much part of my childhood.
Actually the figure is made of GITD plastic, on top of which a skeleton in GITD paint is printed, so the effect is wonderful!
This expired ebay listing still has some brilliant pics:

Hi Warden

Thank you so much the kind comments, really pleased you like the posts on my site.Would of been good if you could of made it to the show but I guess living in America makes it a little too far. Do you get to see many spooky shows in the states? Yes I love a good ghost story such as The Ash Tree. Have you ever see the M.R.James Ghost stories that were made by the BBC here in England back in the 1970's? Highly recommended, these are now all available on dvd.

Thanks for adding me to your cool blog, your blog is really great and has some really Interesting posts. Not sure why you can't add the Haunted House picture on your blog.If I think of another way I'll let you know.[Oh sorry I just realised on your next comment that you have added the picture now, thank you]

An excellent performer by all accounts. Scottish actor Gavin Mitchell does a similar thing with RL Stevenson stories in Edinburgh.

Oh and go and check the latest Cadbury's trick or treat cake bars now in UK stores. Well illustrated, classic monsters on the wrappers. As it should be!

Hi Paul
I have not seen the M.R. James Ghost stories. I will certainly check them out! Thanks for the tip. Thanks for your kind words about my blog. I am very new, and am still figuring out how to simply have comments and replies go where I can find them, obviously, since I just found your reply from September. I suppose it's all part of the process.
I expect we do have show like that somewhere, but I just need to find the right blog so I can hear about them. haha. They certainly aren't in the mainstream, but then either are we. :) I'm finding more and more of you are across the pond. Once I get my last little one out of school, out and on her own, I hope to visit and meet some of you....and take in one of your shows! Sure sounds like fun. I had no idea when I started that there is such a welcoming community of horror bloggers out there, and I dream about meeting them one day. Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you.
