'Monster Munch has been around for quite some time now, late 1970's I think. These monster shape snacks are still has popular as when they first hit the market. There has of course been many changes regarding the packets, I always like the pictures of the monsters on the front, the same ones that you saw on the TV adverts during the 70's/80's. What was also great was the advertising you get on the wrappers to send for wonderful Monster Munch things, such as toys, badges, t-shirts, and to win games etc. What has happened to Monster Munch now? The packets are just horrible, the snacks themselves may be the same, but the packet design is just too plain and boring, what happened to the fun looking packs, after all they are really aimed at children. Anyway enough moaning, as you can see here is a selection of Monster Munch packets, the earliest of these is late 80's and goes onto the 1990's.

ReplyDeleteYep, went out a got two packs after reading this. tasts ok, but texture is different, and the best flavour (beef)can only be bought in multipaks.
The packaging is terrible now.
why dos everyone have to go for 3D rending?
The hand drawn ones had more character.
I buy a KP chesse snack thats just like something you used to get in the 70's, itsb 10p a bag and has a hand drawn sleeve..great stuff
This seems to be the thing these days when they change packaging, flavour, or size it never seems to be as good as they used to be. Like you say the hand drawn ones had more character. They always seem to make things smaller too, I am sure Mars bars were bigger back in the 70's unless it was because I was a lot smaller then.
ReplyDeleteI KNEW there was a black packet with a blue monster, I've been trying to find it for YEARS. You put my mind at rest, thank you

Are you looking for original packets from the 70's or just any Monster Munch packet? I certailny don't have any from the 70's.
ReplyDeleteI think this might be of interest to you...
ReplyDeleteClick here for some Monster Munch news!
Thanks for that, its great news and about time they saw the errors of their ways. The new packet designs were very dull and no fun.
ReplyDeleteWould all so be great if they relaunched Horror Bags too.
This is not horror related, actually, on second thought, it is (or may be)
ReplyDeleteCan you remember chewinggum (bubblegum?) from the 70's, I think it was flat and rectangularish with TATTS of monsters(?) in garish colours
Do you know what I'm talking about ? If so, do you have the name ?
Hi
ReplyDeleteI do seem to remember buying packets of chewing gum which came with tattoos of monsters/creatures but I don't know wether that was in the 70's or 80's. I think I might have some but like I say not sure what era these came from. I did see something on ebay just recently which may or may not be what you described, they are called 'Tattoo Terrors bubble gum' price 2p.
hey- can I post your monster munch packets in my Flickr album (www.flickr.com/photos/mankatt) - Ill mention your webpage in the description - totally dig these old packets..
ReplyDeleteHi Pete
